Ed Kowalczyk, the frontman of Live, has responded after former guitarist Chad Taylor sent him a cease and desist letter regarding the use of the band’s name. Kowalczyk has been touring as Live since 2022 without the other founding members: Taylor, bassist Patrick Dahlheimer, and drummer Chad Gracey.
In the cease and desist letter, Taylor argues that Kowalczyk did not have the right to fire him from the band, as he claimed in 2022. Taylor, a founding shareholder of the company that owns the Live brand, is now revoking Kowalczyk’s permission to use the band’s name.
Kowalczyk’s lawyer, Mitchell Schuster, stated, “The claims in the cease and desist letter from certain former members of Live are without merit.” He emphasized that Kowalczyk has been the band’s frontman since its beginning and continues to hold that role. Schuster added that they plan to handle the situation through legal channels and are confident it will be resolved in Kowalczyk’s favor.
It’s worth noting that Kowalczyk left Live in 2009 and faced legal issues with the other band members over the use of the Live name during his solo performances. He reunited with the band in 2016.
