Edgehill’s frontman recently shared his thoughts on the band’s exciting success with their single “Doubletake.” The song has climbed to the top of the Billboard Alternative Airplay chart, marking the band’s first #1 hit. This is also the first time Edgehill has made it onto the Alternative Airplay chart.
Kelly noted that “Doubletake” has helped the band reach a wider audience beyond their usual college crowd. He mentioned, “With [‘Doubletake’] having success on radio, we have people of all ages at our shows now, which is really cool.” He finds it amusing to spot older fans at their concerts, joking about asking a 65-year-old man if he discovered them on the radio, to which the man replied, “Yeah!”
When asked why listeners are connecting with “Doubletake,” Kelly highlighted its nostalgic ’90s and early 2000s sound. He also mentioned that the song’s unique structure might play a role in its appeal. “The verse melody is a little different from what you usually hear with that chorus,” he explained. “But I think nostalgia is a big part of it.”
“Doubletake” is part of Edgehill’s new album, Ode to the Greyhouse, which is available now.
