A new vinyl reissue of one of the greatest vocal jazz albums is on the way. “Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Rodgers and Hart Songbook” features the legendary Ella Fitzgerald showcasing her incredible voice with the timeless songs of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart. This new 2LP vinyl pressing will be released on November 21 through Verve’s Acoustic Sounds Series.
The Acoustic Sounds Series is known for its high-quality releases, featuring transfers from analog tapes and remastered 180-gram vinyl in deluxe gatefold packaging. Earlier this year, the series included albums from artists like Billie Holiday, John Coltrane, and Diana Krall. You can preorder the Fitzgerald release now.
In late August 1956, just after her Cole Porter album, Fitzgerald recorded this classic with arranger Buddy Bregman and producer Norman Granz, who founded Verve. The album includes iconic tracks like “My Funny Valentine,” “The Lady Is A Tramp,” and “Isn’t It Romantic?” It features top West Coast session musicians, including Maynard Ferguson on trumpet and Barney Kessel on guitar.
With a total of 34 tracks, this album is a landmark in vocal jazz. It was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999 and was included in Colin Larkin’s fan-voted “All Time Top 1000 Albums.” All Music Guide gave it a five-star review, praising Fitzgerald’s ability to swing medium-tempo songs and bring emotion to ballads.
