Elton John is celebrating 50 years of his iconic album, *Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy*, with a deluxe reissue on October 24. This special edition will be available in several formats, including 2LP, 2CD, and digital. Fans can also look forward to the first-ever vinyl release of *Live at Midsummer Music, Wembley Stadium 1975*.
The 2LP and 2CD versions feature the original album, unreleased session demos, and live performances from 2005. Each edition comes with a booklet that includes a scrapbook, sleeve notes, and exclusive diary entries from Elton’s 1974 journal, available only in the 2LP set.
Originally released in May 1975, *Captain Fantastic* is Elton’s ninth studio album and includes the hit single “Someone Saved My Life Tonight.” The album tells the story of Elton (Captain Fantastic) and his songwriting partner Bernie Taupin (the Brown Dirt Cowboy) as they navigated their early careers in London.
Elton shared his thoughts on the album, saying it was his first autobiographical work. He noted that they recorded it live in the studio with a peak-performing band. The album debuted at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 and was the first to be certified Gold upon release, selling 1.4 million copies in just four days.
The album’s success is also thanks to Alan Aldridge’s memorable artwork, which features Elton in a whimsical landscape, symbolizing his escape from everyday life.
