EVH Launches New Amplifier Mimicking Eddie Van Halen’s Iconic Sound

Eddie Van Halen’s EVH brand has just launched the 5150III Hypersonic 6L6 1×12, a new digital amp that captures the sound of Eddie’s famous tube amp but is nearly 35 pounds lighter. This amp uses advanced digital circuits to replicate the punch, brightness, and feel of the original 5150III 6L6 tube version. According to the brand, the sound is “virtually indistinguishable” from the all-tube model, thanks to its powerful digital processing.

“This represents the next evolution in EVH amplification, delivering Eddie’s iconic tone through innovative digital technology,” said Jon Romanowski, VP of Product at EVH Guitars. The Hypersonic 6L6 1×12 makes it easier for players to access authentic EVH sound, offering more portability and versatility than ever.

The amp features three channels: Clean, Crunch, and Lead. Each of the first two channels has concentric EQ knobs for adjusting gain, tone, and volume. Plus, every channel includes its own noise gate to eliminate unwanted hum during high-gain settings.

A power selector allows you to choose full output or one of five reduced settings, making it suitable for both stadium gigs and bedroom practice. It also has a balanced XLR line output with built-in cabinet simulations, perfect for recording. For silent practice, you can use the mute switch for headphone monitoring.

On the back, you’ll find MIDI and USB-C connections, along with an updated five-button footswitch for controlling reverb and effects during performances. The cabinet is made from 11-ply 15mm plywood and features a Celestion EVH G12H 30W Anniversary Series 12-inch speaker, just like the tube version.

The 5150III Hypersonic 6L6 1×12 is available in black or ivory vinyl and is priced at $1,699.99.
