Ex-Live member issues cease-and-desist over Ed Kowalczyk’s use of band name

The ongoing legal drama within the band Live has taken a new turn. Former guitarist Chad Taylor has sent a cease and desist letter to frontman Ed Kowalczyk, demanding he stop using the Live name. This comes after Kowalczyk claimed majority control of the band in 2022 and fired Taylor. Since then, Kowalczyk has been touring as Live without the other founding members.

Taylor shared the cease and desist letter on his Instagram, stating, “I was not ‘fired.’ Ed never had the authority to remove me.” He emphasized that he remains a founding shareholder and director of Action Front Unlimited, Inc., the company that owns the Live name and trademarks. Taylor also mentioned that Kowalczyk’s rights to use the Live brand were revoked as of February 16, 2026.

He added, “I won’t fight this in public. The courts will handle it. Thank you for the support while we work toward properly restoring Live.” Drummer Chad Gracey also shared the letter, declaring, “Your license is revoked.”

This isn’t the first time Kowalczyk has faced legal issues over the band name. He left Live in 2009 and dealt with similar legal matters regarding his solo shows before reuniting with the band in 2016. Fans are eager to see how this situation unfolds as the legal battle continues.
