Get ready to celebrate National Cheeseburger Day on September 18, 2025! Big restaurant chains across the country are rolling out tasty deals. Did you know Americans munch on about 50 billion burgers each year? And three out of four of those come with cheese!
McDonald’s is leading the pack with double cheeseburgers for just 50 cents when you order through their mobile app. Burger King is offering a free bacon cheeseburger with any $1 purchase from September 17-21, plus some bonus offers for bigger buys. If you’re in the mood for sliders, White Castle has a “SAYCHEESE” code for a buy-one-get-one deal until September 21. Shake Shack is teaming up with DoorDash to give you $9 off when you spend $25.
The cheeseburger has a cool history too! It first appeared in 1926 when Lionel Sternberger added cheese to a burger at The Rite Spot in Pasadena. Kaelin’s Restaurant in Louisville claims to have named it the “cheeseburger” in 1934.
Smaller chains are joining the fun as well. Freddy’s is giving away a free Original Double with a $10 purchase. Whataburger is offering free sides with certain burgers, and Checkers has Big Bufords for just $3 from September 16-18. Regular spots like Applebee’s have burgers and fries for $8.99, while Red Robin offers unlimited sides for $9.99. Ruby Tuesday has four burger options priced between $8.99 and $11.99.
