FireAid Fund Expenditure Under Scrutiny, Organizers Provide Clarification

In January, the FireAid benefit concert was held to support wildfire relief efforts in Los Angeles. However, months later, questions have arisen about how the raised funds are being used. California Congressman Kevin Kiley has raised concerns, claiming that none of the $100 million collected at the concert actually went to help LA fire victims. Instead, he alleges that the money was funneled to nonprofits that aren’t directly involved in fire relief.

Kiley shared a letter he sent to Attorney General Pam Bondi, asking for an investigation into the matter. He stated, “We’ve learned that of the $100 million raised at the celebrity ‘Fire Aid’ concert, none actually went to LA fire victims. Instead, the money went to nonprofits, many that have nothing to do with fire relief.”

In response, the Los Angeles Clippers, who helped cover the concert’s costs, issued a statement. Chris Wallace, the Clippers’ Chief Communications Officer, said, “FireAid has reached out to and spoken with Representative Kiley. We are happy to work with him to make sure he has the full picture of the direct support FireAid has helped provide to people impacted by the devastating wildfires.” He emphasized that local organizations have delivered essential aid, including food, housing, and legal assistance.

As for the funds, $75 million of the $100 million raised has already been distributed in two rounds of grants. The first round provided about $50 million, while the second round gave out $25 million. However, details on how much each group received remain unclear.

There are growing calls for transparency regarding how the FireAid funds are being allocated. Many are seeking a detailed breakdown of the distribution to ensure that the money is reaching those who need it most.
