Chris Barron and his band, the Spin Doctors, are no strangers to WMMR and its listeners. Their debut album, *Pocket Full of Kryptonite*, shot them to fame in 1991, and MMR has been with them every step of the way. Chris has checked in with the station many times over the years, most recently to celebrate his 58th birthday on February 5, 2026.
To mark this special occasion, let’s take a trip back to an early conversation Chris had during his career. It was July 11, 1993, backstage at the Mann Music Center. He had a deep chat with someone he greatly admired—Pierre Robert.
As soon as the tape started rolling, Chris was eager to share his Philadelphia connections with Pierre. He talked about his school days in the area and his fond memories of performing at the 23 East Cabaret. Chris expressed how much he enjoyed listening to Pierre over the years and how excited he was to be speaking with him.
In addition to reminiscing, Chris shared his passion for advocacy. He spoke about his support for cannabis legalization and the need to reduce fossil fuel dependency to protect the environment. He also reflected on the Spin Doctors’ milestones and discussed the idea that music has a code of honor, likening it to “Wizards not Samurai.”
You can listen to the full conversation below as we celebrate Chris Barron’s birthday and his contributions to music and advocacy. Happy Birthday, Chris!
