Pat Smear has broken multiple bones in his left foot due to a gardening accident. As a result, he will miss several upcoming Foo Fighters concerts, with Jason Falkner stepping in to fill his spot.
The band shared the news on Instagram, humorously referencing the 1984 mockumentary *This Is Spinal Tap*, where a drummer also met an unfortunate fate while gardening. They wrote, “In the classic tradition of rockstars having bizarre gardening accidents, Pat Smear has apparently rung in the new year by smashing the s–t out of his left foot.”
The post included a funny magazine cover featuring Smear on a stretcher, giving the camera the middle finger, with a headline that read, “Foo Fighters Breaking News. Pat Smear Bizarre Gardening Accident!” Fans quickly filled the comments with messages of support, wishing him a speedy recovery. One fan wrote, “Take care of you, feel better! C u soon.”
The Foo Fighters are set to kick off 2026 with a show on January 10 in Guanajuato, Mexico. They will perform in Los Angeles on January 14 for a benefit concert celebrating Dave Grohl’s 57th birthday, followed by a performance in Australia on January 24.
This isn’t the first time the band has faced injury. In 2015, Grohl fell off the stage and broke his leg but continued the show while sitting on a light-up throne. That throne became famous and has been used by Axl Rose during his tours and by Matthew Ramsey from Old Dominion after his leg surgery.
Fans can check for concert dates and ticket information for the Foo Fighters this year.
