It was an exciting weekend for Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters! On Saturday, September 13, the band announced a surprise show that night in San Luis Obispo, CA. This performance was their first of 2025, and they also revealed a second show for Monday, September 15.
The energy in San Luis Obispo was electric. A 3.7 magnitude earthquake near Atascadero wasn’t the only thing shaking the area. Foo Fighters played to a packed crowd at the Fremont Theater, where many fans camped out overnight for tickets. The band delivered a setlist that spanned their entire career, featuring the debut of their new drummer, Ilan Rubin.
Grohl, along with bandmates Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett, Rami Jaffee, and Rubin, will perform again on Monday at the Observatory in Santa Ana. This concert was their first since their show at the House of Blues in Anaheim, CA, on September 6, 2024, which was the last with former drummer Josh Freese. During the San Luis Obispo show, Grohl officially introduced Rubin as the new drummer. “Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Ilan Rubin, playing drums in the Foo Fighters. It’s official,” Grohl announced.
The band played all their hits during this first show of 2025, including “Learn to Fly,” “Times Like These,” “My Hero,” and “Everlong.” They also rocked out with tracks like “Have It All,” “Exhausted,” and their cover of “Winnebago.” Fans left the show buzzing with excitement for what’s next from the Foo Fighters!
