Foo Fighters were the musical guest on Saturday Night Live last night (Oct. 28). As expected, they delivered two great performances, and Dave Grohl had two additional appearances during the show.

Here’s a recap of what all went down.

“Lake Beach”

A pre-recorded musical sketch saw host Nate Bargatze and cast members Andrew Dismukes and James Austin Johnson singing about the joys of hanging out at a Lake Beach. Grohl appears as someone’s uncle who shows up to party at the Lake Beach, but he’s “not fun to play corn hole with.” This uncle then has a fireworks accident and ends up providing a hilarious plot twist at the end of the sketch.

“Rescued”

The band’s first performance of the night was “Rescued” from their latest album But Here We Are.

Foo fans who know what’s up were likely thrilled to see Christopher Walken make a guest appearance during the cold open. This led to the actor to introduce the band before their first performance of the night, which he did years ago. In the clip below, Grohl recalls a previous SNL booking where Walken was the host. The actor approached Grohl to ask if there was more emphasis on “Foo” or “Fighters” when saying the band’s name. Grohl, ever the scamp, said the emphasis was on “Fighters,” which led to the frontman’s popular impression of Walken.

Of course, this time around, Walken made sure to put the emphasis on “Foo.” However, we kind of wish he put it on “Fighters,” because that would’ve been hilarious.

“Airplane”

The “Airplane” sketch saw Grohl’s second non-musical appearance on the show. The premise of the sketch has a woman going into labor and her husband asking if there’s a doctor on board. This then spirals into a debate about what the second best job is after being a doctor.

“The Glass” (Featuring H.E.R.)

The second performance from the Foos gave the episode one more surprise appearance courtesy of guitar goddess H.E.R. She joined the band for a rousing performance of “The Glass,” which is also off of But Here We Are.
