Foo Fighters Unveil New Single ‘Asking for a Friend’ During Monterrey Concert

Foo Fighters performed their new single, “Asking for a Friend,” during a show in Monterrey, Mexico, on November 12. This release comes ahead of their world stadium tour set for 2026, which is expected to fill venues across the globe. After the song, lead singer Dave Grohl told the crowd on YouTube, “That’s the first time we’ve ever tried that live.”

The setlist also featured a rare live rendition of “Hey, Johnny Park!,” a deep cut from their album *The Colour and the Shape* that hasn’t been played since 2021. “Asking for a Friend” showcases powerful riffs and a catchy chorus. The onstage chemistry between Grohl, lead guitarist Chris Shiflett, and new drummer Ilan Rubin brought fresh energy to the performance. Rubin, who previously played with Nine Inch Nails, has stepped in after Josh Freese, who joined the band following the passing of Taylor Hawkins in 2022. Interestingly, Freese replaced Rubin in Nine Inch Nails, creating a unique connection between the two bands.

The song “Asking for a Friend” premiered in October and is the second original track from the band this year, following “Today’s Song,” which debuted in July. Their latest album, *But Here We Are*, was released in 2023.

Next, the band will perform in Mexico City at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez racetrack on Friday. They will also tour Europe in June and North America in August, with stops in Stockholm, Paris, and Liverpool. Queens of the Stone Age will support them during the North American leg. Additionally, Foo Fighters will headline the 10th anniversary of Madrid’s Mad Cool festival alongside Pulp, Florence & The Machine, and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. “Asking for a Friend” is set to become a fan favorite as they gear up for their upcoming tour dates.
