Former Iron Maiden lead vocalist has passed away.

Paul Mario Day, the original lead singer of Iron Maiden, has died at the age of 69. His passing was announced in a tribute on the Facebook page of the British glam rock band Sweet, which he joined in 1985. Day reportedly “passed away peacefully at his home in Australia.”

Sweet guitarist Andy Scott shared memories of Day, saying, “In 1985, Mick Tucker and I put together the first new line-up of Sweet after the original band’s hiatus. We needed a singer, and when Paul arrived for the audition, we looked no further.” Day toured Australia and Europe with Sweet and featured on their 1989 live album and DVD, *Live at the Marquee*. Scott praised Day’s vocals, stating they have “stood the test of time.”

Before joining Sweet, Day was the lead singer of Iron Maiden from December 1975 to October 1976, before being replaced by Dennis Wilcock. He later formed the heavy metal band More before joining Sweet.

Fans remember Day for his powerful voice and contributions to rock music. He will be missed by many in the music community.
