Fortnite’s Virtual Concert ‘Remix: The Finale’ Draws Record Audience

Fortnite Battle Royale wrapped up its popular monthlong Chapter 2 Remix campaign Nov. 30 with a live in-game event called “Remix: The Finale.” The virtual concert attracted 14.3 million concurrent players, the most ever for an in-game concert on the platform. An additional 3 million viewers streamed the event live without logging into the game.

“Remix: The Finale” featured virtual performances from Snoop Dogg, Ice Spice, and Eminem, plus a tribute to the late Juice WRLD. The 15-minute sequence included “dreamscapes” for each artist, including Snoop Dogg performing in space, Eminem fighting a robotic version of himself, and Ice Spice rapping against the backdrop of a city skyline. It culminated with the world premiere of Juice WRLD’s new posthumous album Empty Out Your Pockets. During the Juice WRLD segment, players transformed into crystal butterflies, while the late rap innovator’s image performed against a starry horizon.

“Jarad always loved to play Fortnite – it was more than just entertainment for him, it was a way to connect with others,” Juice’s mother Carmella Wallace said ahead of the virtual concert. “From a young age, video games were a part of how he bonded with friends and family, and being in Fortnite is an incredible tribute to that connection. I know he would be overjoyed to see how his love for games continues to bring people together across different spaces, just like his music does.”

The performers from “Remix: The Finale” participated in Chapter 2 Remix festivities throughout November, with each rapper getting a spotlight week. The live finale event followed similar standalone showcases for Travis Scott and Ariana Grande within the game. “Remix: The Finale” coincided with the end of Chapter 5 of Fortnite. The first season of Chapter 6, the anime-themed “鬼 Hunters” (“Demon Hunters”), is set to kick off this Friday, Dec. 6. The same day, the original or “OG” Fortnite game will go live once again, allowing players to revisit all the classic maps.

Fortnite has become a destination for the biggest stars in music. In recent years, artists including Metallica, Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, Kaskade, and Don Toliver have launched in-game collaborations with the platform.
