After some spooky music and kabuki drop, the Nameless Ghouls (& Ghoulettes) began playing “Ashes”, in front of the same massive backdrop they have been using for years which resembles a cathedral. Cardinal Copia was surrounded by three guitarists, a bassist, drummer, and two keyboardists all wearing black as well as their iconic shiny ghoul masks.
The band was energized from the start as they played to the photographers and the fans while playing hits like “Rats” off the latest record, Prequelle, and through even their deep cut fan favorites like “Devil Church”, “Cirice” & “Year Zero”.
Ghost released a new EP Seven Inches of Satanic Panic in September of this year, which features a couple new tracks “Kiss The Go-Goat” & “Mary on a Cross.” The band perform both tracks “Mary on a Cross,” and “Kiss the Go-Goat,” as part of their set and of course they sounded funky and phenomenal.
Papa Nihil made an apperance and played some sax during “Miasma” which turned into a great jam session. Strange to think of Ghost as a “jam band” but the fans were into it. At one point some other special guests appeared, the “Plague Doctors,” these menacing figures may be some foreshadowing into what the future for Ghost holds as well as the end of Papa 3.
Ghost’s 90 minute set was filled with hits as well as some deeep cuts from all 4 albums as well as their EPs. It was a great night for hardcore Ghost fans as well as well as for any of the first timers.
To close the night out Ghost performed their hit “Square Hammer” which had everyone on their feet and singing along.
