Grammy Museum Jazz Appreciation

The Grammy Museum has announced its April schedule featuring programs planned in celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month. The COLLECTION:live interview and performance series kicks off on April 8 and will feature appearances from Emmet Cohen, Julian Lage, The Beat Farmers, Richie Furay, Tower of Power, and more.

The digital exhibit Blue Note: The Finest In Jazz will place a spotlight on the iconic jazz label Blue Note Records and will premiere on April 2. Accompanying the launch will be an archival exhibit featuring the head of Blue Note, Don Was, joined by Grammy-winning trumpeter and composer, Terence Blanchard.

Founded in 1939 by Alfred Lion, Blue Note has long been considered one of the most important record labels in popular music history. For multiple decades, the label has made room for classic and innovative talent in jazz. Was, who was named Chief Creative Officer of the label, played a pivotal role in bringing Blue Note Records into an era of unbounded expression.

The historic label also recently partnered up with Astralwerks to create Bluewerks, a visionary new series of lo-fi compilations where downtempo electronica meets jazz-infused sounds across a variety of themes and moods.

Along with the Blue Note curation, jazz fans can always catch archival performances from Dee Dee Bridgewater, Azar Lawrence, Christian McBride, Preservation Hall Jazz ,Band and Cassandra Wilson.

New, original programming will also be released on the platform each Thursday of the month. The April 22 line-up will include The Beat Farmers, Richie Furay, T Bear, and Tower of Power, followed by performances from Adam Ezra Group, Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Jr., and Michigander on April 29.

In other news, The Record Academy has announced that the 64th annual Grammy Awards will take place at the show’s traditional home of the Staples Center on Jan. 31, 2022, for an in-person event. The new Monday date breaks away from the show’s traditional Sunday evening scheduling.

As usual, the show will broadcast live on the CBS television network from 8 – 11:30 p.m. ET / 5 – 8:30 p.m. PT.
