Green Day Unveils Teaser for ‘New Year’s Rev’ Film Inspired by Early Touring Experiences

Get ready for a punk rock road trip comedy! “New Year’s Rev” hits theaters next year, following three teens on their quest to open for Green Day in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 12.

Inspired by Green Day’s early touring days in the early ’90s, the movie tells the story of The Analog Dogs, a fictional garage band. They embark on a cross-country journey after falling for a prank about performing with the punk legends. Live Nation Productions is behind the project, with director Lee Kirk collaborating with Green Day to bring the story to life.

Billie Joe Armstrong shared his excitement, saying, “Van days rule. You will drive all night on no sleep, then play a show for 10 kids in a basement of a friend of a friend’s house 50 miles east of anywhere you’ve ever heard of. … It’s electric. Let the music and mischief ensue.”

The film features fresh faces Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust in leading roles. The cast also includes Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey from “The Office,” along with comedians Fred Armisen and Bobby Lee. Mckenna Grace, Keen Ruffalo, Ignacio Diaz-Silverio, and Sean Gunn round out the ensemble.

Music is a big part of the film, featuring twelve Green Day tracks. Their hit song “Holiday” plays in the trailer. Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tre Cool are producers on the project. Filming wrapped in Oklahoma this year, with local crews casting young adults for concert scenes shot in Oklahoma City during a cold snap in February.

Green Day sees “New Year’s Rev” as a tribute to classic road movies with a ’90s twist. The trailer was shared on social media on September 7, but details about the wide release are still under wraps.
