Guns N’ Roses surprised fans at their Nov. 2 show at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles by debuting “The General,” a new song.
Per Setlist.fm, “The General” showed up ten songs into GN’R’s 25-song setlist. The song can be heard here.
“The General” is the fourth new song Guns N’ Roses has released since Slash and Duff McKagan returned to the band. “Absurd” was the first new song and came out in August 2021. About a month later, the band released “Hard Skool.” The third song released was “Perhaps,” which came out this August. All four tracks are outtakes from the recording sessions of Chinese Democracy.
More New Music From GN’R?
The fact fans have received four new songs from Guns N’ Roses feels like a minor miracle. In July, stage tech Tom Mayhue hinted at more new music. He said, in part, “They’ve got a bunch of stuff recorded already.”
Buzz about new GN’R music started picking up steam in June. Urban Sound Studios shared a photo of Axl Rose and Slash at the Oslo-based recording facility that has since been deleted. Loudwire notes the photo was captioned, “We got to hang out with these 2 rock legends in the studio today. Really cool guys! The band wanted a nice studio with a variety of speakers and headphones to listen to new mixes before they head for Glastonbury. It sounds awesome!”
Guns N’ Roses have been pretty tight-lipped over new music. The last notable comment came from Slash in October 2022. The guitarist said, in part, “I want to go in and cut a whole brand new record at some point. Probably sooner than later. But other than that, we have stuff [that’s still] got to come out. So that’s gonna be coming out piecemeal over the next… few months or something like that.”
