Halestorm’s Lead Singer Acknowledges KIX Frontman for Teaching Vocal Techniques at 16

Lzzy Hale credits her incredible singing and stage presence to the training she received from Steve Whiteman of KIX when she was just 16. She met Whiteman at The Tourist Inn in Hallam, Pennsylvania, where her band opened for his side project, Funny Money. They shared a dressing room at the biker bar, and Hale was inspired as she watched him do vocal exercises before his performance.

Hale said, “He was my vocal coach for two years, and he’s still a great mentor of mine. I owe everything that I’m able to pull off every night to that man. He’s amazing. I recommend him to anyone. He introduced me to what I was born with and taught me all that I could do with that gift.” Whiteman invited her to take lessons at Marty’s Music Store in Harrisburg, where she learned about vocal techniques, breath control, and how to perform even when feeling sick or tired. She also picked up stagecraft by observing him on stage and asked how he stayed calm in front of crowds.

To keep her voice healthy while on tour, Hale drinks seven to ten bottles of water before each show. Her family sometimes worries about her powerful vocals, but she reassures them that her singing method is safe.

Hale started her band, Halestorm, at age 13 with her younger brother. The band recently released their latest album, *Everest*, in August through Atlantic Records. They worked with producer Dave Cobb after three albums with Nick Raskulinecz. The band includes drummer Arejay Hale, guitarist Joe Hottinger, and bassist Josh Smith. Halestorm has earned multiple platinum and gold certifications from the RIAA and has headlined sold-out shows and festivals around the world.
