Workers at Sunnyfields Farm in Totton, Hampshire, created an impressive art piece using 10,000 pumpkins and squash to pay tribute to Ozzy Osbourne. The display features the legendary Black Sabbath singer, who passed away in July at the age of 76.
A team of sixteen staff members completed the giant pumpkin artwork in under five hours. It captures Osbourne wearing his iconic round glasses, with three bats flying around his head. This year, fans chose the tribute subject through online voting, and Ozzy was the clear favorite. Sunnyfields Farm director Thomas Nelson mentioned, “We like to reflect some sort of national pride or cultural figure. It’s always risky when you do someone’s face.”
The project kicked off early at 9 a.m. Using tall lifts, the team stacked the squash from the ground up. Nelson explained, “You start at the bottom because of gravity, and as you work up, it gets a bit thinner.”
Last year, the farm set a world record with their giant plant mural. Previous displays have featured characters like Paddington Bear and Beetlejuice, along with themes related to the pandemic.
Sunnyfields Farm’s big fall event starts on October 4 and runs through Halloween. This year, they’re introducing six hands-on rooms and a special light path with glowing wall art. DJ Alan Turner, a semifinalist from Britain’s Got Talent, will perform during the first three night shows starting October 10.
The farm is open daily, with special night events on 13 different dates in October. For more details, check out their website.
