Happy Birthday to Gavin Rossdale of Bush!

Happy Birthday to Gavin Rossdale of Bush!

Rossdale was born on October 30 back in 1965. We all know Gavin Rossdale as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of the rock band Bush, with whom he has released nine studio albums.

Rossdale was born in Marylebone, London, England. He began playing guitar at a young age and formed his first band, Midnight, in the early 1980s.

Despite a few supporting gigs for artists including Cyndi Lauper and Big Country, Midnight had little success. Rossdale later became a member of the group The Little Dukes. They experienced a similar fate.

Initially known as Future Primitive, Rossdale formed what would become the band Bush in 1992 with guitarist Nigel Pulsford. With Gavin filling the roll of the band’s vocalist and rhythm guitarist, they quickly rose to fame with the release of their debut album Sixteen Stone in 1994.

The album spawned several hit singles, including “Glycerine,” “Everything Zen,” “Machinehead,” “Comedown,” and “Little Things.” It went on to sell over six million copies in the United States alone. It’s certified 6x platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

Bush went on to release several more successful albums, including Razorblade Suitcase, The Science of Things, and Golden State, before the band broke-up. They had close to 10-year hiatus with the group.

In the time spent away from Bush, Rossdale formed the band Institute, with Chris Traynor, Cache Tolman, and now Foo Fighters drummer Josh Freese. They released their one and only album Distort Yourself in 2005, playing WMMR’s Creep Show that year in support of the album’s release.

In 2008, Rossdale released his one and only solo album Wanderlust. He has also lent his vocals to bands and artists like Santana on his version of “Bang A Gong,” Apocalyptica on their song “End of Me” and even on the Blue Man Group’s song “The Current.”

During his time away from Bush, Rossdale also began acting. He appeared in films such as Constantine (2005), playing the half-demon Balthazar, Zoolander (2001), The Mayor of Sunset Strip (2004), How to Rob a Bank (2008), and several others. He’s also appeared on the television series Criminal Minds, Burn Notice, and Hawaii Five-0.

Bush reunited in 2010. They have released five new albums since then, including their most recent The Art of Survival in 2022. The band will release Loaded: The Greatest Hits 1994-2023 via Round Hill Records on November 10, featuring their brand-new song “Nowhere to Go But Everywhere.” You can preorder it now on vinyl!

Rossdale and Bush will be performing live at the Hershey Theatre in Hershey, PA on Saturday November 18, 2023. Get your tickets here.

Happy Birthday from all of us at WMMR!
