Jack Johnson is hitting the road again with his SURFILMUSIC Tour, a 43-date North American tour set for next year. This marks his first tour since 2022 and will celebrate his music, film, and environmental efforts over the past twenty years.
To kick things off, Johnson has released a new single called “Hold On To The Light,” featuring Hermanos Gutiérrez. The song is available on all streaming platforms and gives fans a sneak peek of the upcoming SURFILMUSIC soundtrack, which Johnson and Gutiérrez created for a new film about Johnson, set to debut next year.
The SURFILMUSIC documentary will explore Johnson’s journey from surfer to filmmaker to musician. It will highlight his classic surf films, Thicker Than Water and The September Sessions, which helped launch his music career. The film will also showcase the friendships and ocean community that have influenced Johnson, featuring surfers like Kelly Slater, Rob Machado, and the Malloy Brothers.
More details about the documentary and soundtrack will be shared next year. You can watch the first trailer now.
For the soundtrack, Johnson teamed up with Hermanos Gutiérrez, who have long admired his work. They worked together in the studio with producer Mario Caldato Jr., who has produced some of Johnson’s most popular albums. Their collaboration resulted in the new song and an original film score. The brothers will also join Johnson on stage for many tour dates.
The SURFILMUSIC Tour will visit some of North America’s most beautiful outdoor venues, including Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD (June 26), Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, OH (July 7), and The Gorge Amphitheatre in George, WA (September 26). The tour will wrap up with shows at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA (September 30 and October 1), Santa Barbara Bowl (October 3 and 4), and two nights at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, CA (October 10–11). Hermanos Gutiérrez, Lake Street Dive, and G. Love will open for Johnson on select dates.
