James Mercer of The Shins has written a picture book called Book of Dreams. Jacob Escobedo, known for work on Cartoon Network and Adult Swim, illustrated it. The book is due out March 2, 2027.
“Dreams were something my daughters and I talked about all the time,” Mercer said. He wanted the book to capture those strange nighttime worlds where anything can happen. He adds that Escobedo’s art made the ideas feel more vivid and alive.
Mercer also composed and performs a lullaby to go with the book.
On the music side, The Shins recently marked their 30th anniversary with a limited-edition vinyl single. The band will tour with Weezer starting in September.
