James Taylor’s European tour, which had been scheduled to begin in January 2022, has been postponed over concerns about COVID-19. Rescheduled dates are to be announced as soon as possible.
A short statement on the website of the storied singer-songwriter says: “Previously purchased tickets will be honored for all new concert dates and fans are encouraged to hold onto their tickets. Please reach out to your point of purchase should you prefer a refund and if you still have questions, please reach out to James’s team. We greatly appreciate your patience while we work towards rescheduling these concerts.”
The itinerary was due to commence on January 18 in Paris, with further shows in Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands and then an eight-date tour of the UK and Ireland from January 25 to February 5. This was to have been followed by four further shows in Germany and dates in Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, Switzerland, and Spain.
Taylor is continuing his rescheduled North American tour with special guest Jackson Browne, in which the next show is tomorrow night (November 16) at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, SC. Dates continue all the way to December 13 when the tour ends at KeyBank Center in Buffalo, NY. The two greats are due back on the road together for an extensive tour of Canada in April and May next year.
Pete Vonder Haar’s Houston Press review of the duo’s show at the city’s Toyota Center last month noted: “Taylor and his All-Star Band (including ‘Blue’ Lou Marini on sax, Michito Sanchez, and Steve Gadd on percussion/drums, and Taylor’s son Henry on backing vocals) eased through a familiar set, punctuated liberally with the expected hits while only showcasing one cut off American Standard (the Johnnie ‘Scat’ Davis cover ‘As Easy as Rolling Off a Log’).”
George Varga wrote in the San Diego Tribune, ahead of the tour stop in that city on November 1: “Taylor recently acknowledged he had been contemplating retirement shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic began. He has since changed his mind and has decided to continue performing as long as he is able.”
