James Unveils New Career-Spanning Compilation Album ‘Nothing But Love’

James is set to release a career-spanning compilation next month. Titled *Nothing But Love – The Definitive Best Of*, this 2LP set will be available on November 21. The band curated the album themselves, showcasing key singles, fan favorites, and some deeper cuts from their catalog.

The compilation features classic hits like “Laid,” “Come Home,” “Sit Down,” and “She’s A Star.” It also includes two previously unreleased tracks: “Wake Up Superman” and “Hallelujah Anyhow.”

James formed in 1982, initially going by names like Model Team and Tribal Outlook before settling on James. The original lineup included guitarist Paul Gilbertson, drummer Gavan Whelan, bassist Jim Glennie, and lead singer Tim Booth. They gained early recognition after performing at the famous Manchester nightclub, the Haçienda, alongside New Order and The Durutti Column. This led to an EP deal with Factory Records and their debut release, *Jimone*, in August 1983.

After a brief stint with Factory, they signed with Sire Records and released their first album in 1986. By 1990, James was gaining popularity beyond the UK, becoming a key part of the ‘Madchester’ indie dance scene. Their 1990 album *Gold Mother* produced three Top 40 singles, and a re-recorded version of “Sit Down” hit No. 2 in 1991. Their biggest hit, “Laid,” remains a streaming favorite since its release in 1993.

In recent years, James has released more albums and toured worldwide. This fall, they completed their first headline tour in the U.S. in 15 years, wrapping up with a show in Vancouver on October 5. You can find James’s music on vinyl or CD now.
