Jason Newsted Has Words for Those That ‘Talk Sh-t’ About Lars Ulrich

Lars Ulrich has been criticized for his drumming skills over the course of his career. However, former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted isn’t having any of it.

Ulrich’s drumming critics came up in conversation during a recent appearance Newstead made on the Let There Be Talk podcast. Newsted shut things down quickly and said anyone that thinks Ulrich is an average drumming is a “f-cking idiot.”

He added (h/t Blabbermouth), “They have no idea what they’re talking about … So, if he can’t play the same fill as Dave Lombardo or whoever the f-ck you pick for today, so what? Look at the scoreboard, motherf-cker. Do not talk sh-t about that guy.”

Newsted further noted, ” … If we wouldn’t have had him and his ability to anticipate, to predict, to know geography, to understand what country and what city and what did what at what time and all this stuff, no way Metallica would be what they were. No way! So you need to get ahold of yourselves because there’s way more to it than just being able to hit a snare drum.”

Fans in North America can see Ulrich’s drumming and more when Metallica kicks off the North American leg of their M72 World Tour in August. As previously reported, Metallica is performing two shows in each city on their tour. Each show will feature completely different setlists with no repeating songs.
