Jillian Lauren has opened up about her recent arrest and her divorce from Weezer bassist Scott Shriner. Lauren was arrested in April and charged with attempted murder after an incident in her Los Angeles neighborhood, where she allegedly fired at police officers pursuing unrelated hit-and-run suspects. In her first interview since the arrest, Lauren said, “I was doing the best I knew to protect my family. The impulse was self-defense.”
She described how quickly her life changed, saying, “My world fell to pieces around me in a heartbeat. You spend your whole life getting everything in order, and then it all gets thrown up in the air.” The charges against her were later changed to felonies for negligent discharge of a firearm and assault with a semiautomatic weapon, to which she pleaded not guilty. Lauren has been granted a mental health diversion, which could lead to her charges being dismissed.
Regarding her marriage to Shriner, Lauren revealed they had been drifting apart before her arrest, which prompted her to file for divorce in December. “The headlines about the divorce really hurt me,” she admitted. “I was the one who served my husband, but seeing it in public was painful. Divorce is tough, no matter who you are.”
Despite the split, Lauren still considers Shriner her best friend. “We have beautiful kids together and have always supported each other through our changes,” she said.
