Jimi Hendrix Box Set Launches This Friday Featuring 28 Unreleased Tracks from 1967 Recording Sessions

Experience Hendrix L.L.C. and Legacy Recordings are set to release a special box set, Bold As Love, on November 7. This collection features 40 different versions, including studio takes, demos, live recordings, and TV appearances from The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s sessions for Axis: Bold As Love. Among these, there are 28 tracks that have never been released before.

Fans can choose between two formats: five vinyl LPs with a Blu-ray or four CDs with a Blu-ray. Both options include remastered original stereo and mono mixes from 1967. Janie Hendrix, Jimi’s sister and president of Experience Hendrix L.L.C., produced this collection with original recording engineer Eddie Kramer and John McDermott. Kramer, along with engineer Chandler Harrod, created new Dolby ATMOS mixes for all 13 songs on the album.

“Jimi was fearless in his artistic expression,” Janie Hendrix said. “Each song was an invitation for listeners to feel free.” The new material includes a studio demo of “Stone Free/Up From The Skies” from October 1967. Fans can also enjoy alternate takes of songs like “Spanish Castle Magic,” “You Got Me Floatin’,” “One Rainy Wish,” “Up From the Skies,” and “Wait Until Tomorrow.”

The box set also features eight songs from a September 1967 concert in Stockholm, along with TV performances from British shows like Top of the Pops and Dee Time, plus the Dutch program Hoepla.

The original Axis: Bold As Love was released on December 1, 1967, and recorded at Olympic Studios in London. The US release followed in January 1968 through Reprise Records. Classic tracks like “Little Wing,” “Spanish Castle Magic,” and “Castles Made of Sand” have been covered by many artists. Fans can find more details and pre-order the box set now.
