Jon Batiste To Perform National Anthem At Super Bowl LIX

Jon Batiste will perform the National Anthem at the 2025 Super Bowl LIX. The pianist will help kick off the festivities at New Orleans’ Caesars Superdome on February 9. Batiste’s fellow Louisiana natives Trombone Shorty, Lauren Daigle and Ledisi will provide pre-game entertainment. Ledisi will perform “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” known as the Black national anthem. As previously announced, rapper Kendrick Lamar will headline the Apple Music halftime show, which is executive produced by Roc Nation alongside Jesse Collins.

“We’re honored to work with this year’s pregame lineup to celebrate the rich musical legacy of New Orleans and the entire state,” NFL head of music Seth Dudowsky said in a statement. “The Super Bowl is a rare moment to unite fans around the world, and this year’s performers will bring the energy, soul and vibrant sounds of the region to a global stage, as we kick off Super Bowl LIX with a celebration to remember.”

In November, Batiste released Beethoven Blues (Batiste Piano Series, Vol. 1), which became the 38-year-old’s first No. 1 on Billboard’s Classical Albums chart. Each work on the album began with one of Beethoven’s original compositions and transformed into sometime new, using blues as a basis. “This is my way of life,” he told The New York Times. “Living with the music and exploring it and being in conversation with the music and the composers.”

Batiste is the former bandleader on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. His record We Are won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2022; the following year, his album World Music Radio was nominated for the same award.

The 2023 documentary American Symphony explored Batiste’s life as his wife struggled with leukemia. A song from the film, “It Never Went Away,” was nominated for Best Original Song. In 2020, Batiste, Trent Reznor, and Atticus Ross took home awards at the Golden Globes and Oscars for their work on the animated movie Soul.
