Journey: The Drama Between Neal Schon & Jonathan Cain Continues

Journey continues to be quite the mess as it seems as if the tension between guitarist Neal Schon and keyboardist Jonathan Cain has escalated.

To briefly recap: Schon recently filed a lawsuit against Cain. This lawsuit centers around an American Express credit card that reportedly belongs to Nomota, the LLC Journey uses for its business dealings. Schon alleges Cain has been in control of the credit card and has denied him access to it and its records. Cain says Schon has always had access to the credit card and accused Schon of using the card to make large personal purchases.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, Schon engaged in some interesting activity on Twitter. The guitarist responded to a video of Cain performing “Don’t Stop Believin’” at a gala event hosted at President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Fla. Schon wrote, “For the record, I stated for years now that I’m not OK with us any type of political statement should not be connected to our music that we wrote.”

Two days later, Schon shared screenshots of a statement originally published on Facebook about the ongoing credit card lawsuit. Schon said, in part, “All I want to see is our records. Cain is lying as I do not have full access as he states … Transparency is all I’m asking for. Is that too much to be asking of a 50/50 partner? There’s no skating around this.”

Two days after that, Schon shared a photo of himself and founding Journey member/keyboardist Gregg Rolie. Schon captioned the photo, “2 original founding members. I think my brother Gregg Rolie should join us for 2023 tour. What do you think friends? He will spice it up and we will have a great variety of songs to choose from. What would you like to hear for the 50th anniversary tour?”

As of publishing, Cain has yet to respond to Schon’s suggestion of bringing Rolie back for Journey’s upcoming tour.
