Jutes, known for alternative hits like “Sleepyhead” and “It Takes Two,” will play the Inkcarceration metal and hard rock festival on Friday in Mansfield, Ohio. He’ll be on a bill that includes bands such as Papa Roach and Hollywood Undead.
He admits he’s surprised to be there. Jutes says heavier acts like Deftones have influenced him, but he doesn’t call himself a metalcore artist. “I have moments in my songs that are metalcore-adjacent,” he says. “But then I have pop parts and hip‑hop parts too.”
When deciding what to play at heavier festivals, he listens to his drummer. “He says, ‘Don’t shy away from being different,'” Jutes explains. “You don’t have to pick songs just to fit the bill. It’s cool to do your thing.” Jutes plans to play his biggest songs and see how the crowd reacts.
His new album, Chin Up, Beautiful, arrives Aug. 5. He also released a new single, “Blink Twice.” Jutes starts his headlining tour on Aug. 11 in Phoenix.
