Gene Simmons, the longtime bassist of Kiss, was hospitalized on Tuesday, October 7, after a car accident in Malibu, California. Fortunately, he is now recovering at home. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Simmons’ SUV crossed several lanes on the Pacific Coast Highway and hit a parked car just before 1 p.m. He told deputies that he had “passed out or fainted” while driving.
His wife, Shannon Tweed, shared that he was likely dehydrated and that his doctors had recently adjusted his medication. She emphasized that he needs to drink more water. After being treated, Simmons was released from the hospital and is now resting at home.
On Wednesday, October 8, Simmons took to social media to reassure fans that he is okay. He expressed his gratitude for the support he received. “Thanks, everybody, for the kind wishes,” he wrote. “I’m completely fine. I had a slight fender bender. It happens, especially to those of us who are horrible drivers. And that’s me. All is well.”
As a founding member of Kiss, Simmons is a key figure in the band, known for their iconic music and performances. Kiss was formed in New York in 1973 by Simmons and Paul Stanley, along with original members Ace Frehley and Peter Criss. The band is famous for hits like “Rock and Roll All Nite” and “I Was Made for Lovin’ You.”
Fans can look forward to the upcoming “Kiss Unmasked” event, set for November 14-16 at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. The event will feature special shows, Q&As with band members, performances by former member Bruce Kulick, and tribute bands.
