KISS manager Doc McGhee didn’t hold back when talking about the success of his clients and how they’re the best at what they do.
In an interview with Rob’s School of Music (as transcribed by Blabbermouth), “Gene [Simmons] and Paul [Stanley] and Tommy [Thayer] and Eric [Singer] are determined to be the best at what they do. We don’t go and write songs and try to be Pearl Jam or try to be Rage Against the Machine or try to be anything else — we do four chords and bad lyrics, and it f—ing works fabulous for KISS. And we blow s— up. And the collectability of KISS and the aura around KISS is monstrous; it’s infectious. It excites me every day.”
KISS was in the middle of their “End of the Road” farewell tour when the coronavirus pandemic hit. One thing many fans are curious about is whether Ace Frehley and Peter Criss will show up before the band takes their final bow. McGhee didn’t give a definitive confirmation, but he did say, “Will Ace ever show up? Sure, he’ll show up. Peter hopefully will show up. Everybody’s invited to the party of KISS. We haven’t had that many band members in KISS. Since I’ve been there, there’s been four — two different ones — and that’s it. But KISS is KISS. So, whether you said, ‘Oh, well, I don’t think that there could be another 007 [besides] Sean Connery?’ Well, there is. There’s been five of ’em. People wanna see 007. Mickey Mouse is fucking a hundred years old.”
McGhee also alluded to life for KISS even after their farewell tour come to an end.
“I think KISS will be one of those things that will go on forever,” said McGhee. “I think with the avatar situations that we’re doing now, with the NFT programs that we’re doing, with all the different elements that we have at our disposal today and will have tomorrow and the next day, I don’t see how this brand of KISS goes away ever. If it’s kept with the respect that it should have for the people that they have, I believe that they will be around forever — much longer than me.”
One thing for certain is that the demand for KISS is still very high. As we previously reported, there are two different KISS film projects getting a lot of attention. The first project set for release is Biography: KISStory, a four-hour documentary set to air on A&E in two-hour blocks on Sunday, June 27 and Monday, June 28. The second project is a biopic called Shout It Out Loud that’s on the fast track at Netflix. A release date for Shout It Out Loud has not been announced yet.
