KISS Members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley Reflect on the Legacy of ‘Rock and Roll All Nite’

KISS may have retired, but their music will live on forever. Known for their loud, catchy tunes, KISS is all about fun and getting fans to sing along. They blended glam, metal, and classic rock into a unique sound that makes you feel ten times cooler when you crank up their songs.

In a new episode of the Vevo Footnotes series, KISS legends Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley look back at the iconic music video for their classic hit “Rock and Roll All Nite.” The video is now available on YouTube. In it, Simmons and Stanley share stories about writing and recording the song, emphasizing that it was a true team effort.

“It was very much a collaborative effort,” Simmons explains. “Paul wrote the chorus, and I wrote the verses, which came from a song I had called ‘Drive Me Wild,’ about a car. We even invited friends, road crew, and other musicians to clap and sing on the record.”

Stanley adds, “It’s a quintessential KISS song. It’s a big part of our story and connects with fans across generations.”

The video also features a fun moment where both Simmons and Stanley jokingly claim they have the better face paint.

“Rock and Roll All Nite” is from KISS’ 1975 album, Dressed to Kill. This video release coincides with the deluxe 50th anniversary reissue of the album, which came out in October.

What makes KISS truly special is how they created a whole universe around their music. They were marketing pioneers with KISS lunchboxes, comic books, and action figures, making rock fandom interactive long before social media. KISS showed that rock could be theatrical, wild, and over-the-top. After some recent bad news for the band, it’s great to see them celebrating their legacy.
