KISS will honor Ace Frehley by leaving a vacant seat for him when they accept the Kennedy Center Honors on December 7. Bassist Gene Simmons shared this touching tribute at the Love Ride charity event in Castaic, California, on November 9. He said, “In Ace’s memory, we’re gonna make sure one of the four chairs is empty with Ace’s name, because he deserves to be there in spirit, even if he can’t be there physically.”
Ace Frehley passed away on October 16 at the age of 74 due to blunt trauma injuries from a fall. Simmons, along with bandmates Paul Stanley and Peter Criss, attended Ace’s funeral on October 22 in the Bronx. Simmons expressed his sadness, saying, “The saddest part is that Ace didn’t live long enough to be with us on December 7 when the president and everyone will honor KISS.”
At the Love Ride event, Simmons performed alongside Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer. This charity event raises money for veterans and music education programs.
The Kennedy Center Honors ceremony will take place at the Kennedy Center Opera House in Washington, D.C. This prestigious event celebrates individuals whose work has greatly influenced American performing arts. This year, KISS will be honored alongside stage star Michael Crawford, singer Gloria Gaynor, country musician George Strait, and actor Sylvester Stallone. President Donald Trump is expected to attend to honor the recipients.
Fans can look forward to this special night as KISS pays tribute to their late bandmate Ace Frehley.
