KISS’s music video for “I Was Made for Lovin’ You” has hit a major milestone, surpassing 1 billion views on YouTube. This classic track, released in 1979 on their album Dynasty, marked a shift for the band from hard rock to disco. KISS announced the achievement on Instagram, saying, “The numbers speak for themselves. This one still dominates. IWMFLY baby!!”
The song was a collaboration between Paul Stanley and songwriter Desmond Child. Child recalled, “Paul wanted to write a good disco song, and I decided to help him with that.” The music video features the band in their iconic makeup, performing at the Savannah Civic Center in Georgia.
“I Was Made for Lovin’ You” reached No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became KISS’s second Gold single. While some fans and critics were unsure about the disco sound when it first came out, KISS has continued to perform it at live shows for decades. After this hit, Desmond Child went on to write more songs for KISS in the years that followed.
Dynasty kicked off with this track as its first single. Later this year, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, joining stars like Taylor Swift and Tricky Stewart.
Sadly, Ace Frehley, the band’s original lead guitarist and founding member, passed away in October at the age of 74. He had been dealing with health issues and was hospitalized after a fall, which led to the cancellation of his 2025 tour dates.
Last year, KISS celebrated the 50th anniversary of their album Dressed To Kill with a deluxe edition. This album has been a staple in their live performances for nearly five decades.
