Lady Gaga has shared Born This Way The Tenth Anniversary, a celebratory reimagining of the singer’s sophomore album released in May 2011. For the anniversary, the multi-platinum selling musician recruited six LGBTQIA+ artists and advocates to record alternate versions of some of the most iconic Born This Way tracks.
Over the past few weeks, Gaga has been unveiling her collaborators and sharing their take on the selected songs. First up with New Orleans Bounce artist Big Freedia who brought the heat on “Judas,” followed by Orville Peck’s country-infused performance of “Born This Way” and Kylie Minogue’s disco-ready rendition of “Marry The Night.” Years & Years’ Olly Alexander undertook “The Edge of Glory” while Ben Platt covered “Yoü and I.”
In the last of the covers, country music group The Highwomen, made up of Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby, Maren Morris and Amanda Shires, were joined by Brittney Spencer and Madeline Edwards for a reimagining of “Highway Unicorn (Road To Love).”
“Thank you to each of the incredible artists who reimagined #BornThisWay songs! And thank you Little Monsters for building our community of love, acceptance, and kindness for the last 10 years,” Gaga wrote on Twitter. “I’m so grateful for each of you. Rejoice and love yourself today ‘cause baby, you were Born This Way.”
Born This Way The Tenth Anniversary arrives with an exclusive collection of merchandise available on Gaga’s official website. The collection features a Born This Way 10th Anniversary 3LP vinyl, a double cassette, new shirt designs, and more.
“Born This Way, my song and album, were inspired by Carl Bean, a gay black religious activist who preached, sung, and wrote about being ‘Born This Way.’ Notably, his early work was in 1975, 11 years before I was born,” Gaga explained on the official anniversary of Born This Way.
“Thank you for decades of relentless love, bravery, and a reason to sing. So we can all feel joy, because we deserve joy. Because we deserve the right to inspire tolerance, acceptance, and freedom for all.”
