Chris “CM” Murphy, the legendary late manager for INXS, will be one of the many people from Australia to be celebrated on the 2024 Australia Day Honors List.

The governor-general recognized 1,042 Australians for their dedication to the fields of art, science, medicine, charity work, and military service.

Murphy began his career in the music industry as a booking agent until just before 1980 when he met with Gary Morris, then-manager of Australian rock groups Midnight Oil and INXS. Morris wanted to focus on Midnight Oil and asked Murphy to look after INXS. From that point on, he became the manager of the celebrated rock group.

Last we heard from the band was earlier this month when they released INXS All Juiced Up Part 2, a career-spanning digital remix series that features remixes of songs such as “Need You Tonight,” “Listen Like Thieves,” “New Sensation,” and many more.

As the name suggests, All Juiced Up Part 2 is the follow-up to All Juiced Up, a limited edition remix CD/cassette that accompanied INXS’ 1994 multi-platinum-selling greatest hits album.

All audio has been remastered at Abbey Road, and the remixes will also be available on limited edition 12-inch records, all pressed on colored vinyl.

There will be nine records in total; the first volume of three 12-inch records was released in October of last year, followed by a further three in February 2024, with the final set appearing in May 2024.

INXS and Murphy were 12-inch mix enthusiasts, releasing Dekadance, a collection of their mixes, in 1983. As INXS guitarist and founding member Tim Farriss shared, “INXS always embraced synthesizers, sequencers, and samplers in our music. Back in the early 80s, we often felt like pioneers of combining pub rock with funk, dance, and disco elements, so remixes or 12-inch versions were always something that we were and still are very passionate about. These mixes spoke of the ‘club culture’ and helped highlight the ‘dance’ influences in our music.”
