Singer-songwriter Liana Flores has announced her debut album Flower of the soul, set for release on June 28th via Verve Records. Flower of the soul is now available to pre-save and pre-order, including a limited edition ‘summer berry’ colored vinyl available exclusively via Liana’s official store.
The London-based British-Brazilian artist blends British folk with elements of classic jazz and Brazilian pop to create her unique sound. Her debut album is set to establish her artistic identity even further, with Flores explaining that “Flower of the soul wanders through many stylistic influences, from sunshine pop, to bossa nova, to 60s psych folk, evoking the changing seasons of life and nature, and the core emotions that persist throughout.”
The sound was brought to life by Liana and a group of collaborators including co-producer/mixer Noah Georgeson (Joanna Newsom, Devendra Banhart, Natalia Lafourcade) alongside instrumental collaborators including Chris Bear (Grizzly Bear), Brazilian music virtuoso Jaques Morelenbaum (Caetano Veloso, Ryuichi Sakamato), and acclaimed Brazilian musician Tim Bernardes. The album was written and recorded after Flores completed her studies in Zoology at the University of St Andrews.
In addition to the album announcement, Flores has shared the single “Nightvisions” and an accompanying music video. The video follows Liana through a forest as she sings about a love story, reminiscent of Kate Bush’s “Wuthering Heights.” Liana says that it was “influenced by my favorite gothic romances, ‘Nightvisions’ uses a vampiric love story to explore the power of love to transform.”
Liana first picked up the guitar when she was obsessed with bossa nova in her late teens, and she soon began to combine her musical influences with imaginative lyricism, drawing from nature, fantasy and personal tales.
She signed to Verve after her song “rises the moon” reached a huge online audience. With the label, she’s already released the single “I wish for the rain.” Flower of the soul follows Flores’ previous EP’s The Water’s Fine! and recently.
