Listen To Taking Back Sunday’s Raucous Cover Of Weezer’s ‘My Name Is Jonas’

Taking Back Sunday have shared a cover of Weezer’s seminal single “My Name Is Jonas.” The emo stars have covered the song at a number of live shows, but have finally released a studio rendition of one of their go-to tributes.

NME pointed out that the band has discussed the influence of Weezer in the past. Taking Back Sunday frontman Adam Lazzara told Consequence: “In 2019 we were on tour… a lot! Over time soundcheck got pretty laborious. One day before a show in Cincinnati, OH somebody started playing the opening chords to ‘My Name Is Jonas.’ We all grew up listening to Weezer. Playing this song together was so much fun and broke up the monotony of day to day touring life. We started adding the song to our setlist and recorded it on a day off in Buffalo NY. We love this song and we hope our rendition does it justice.”

Taking Back Sunday have been relatively quiet since celebrating their 20th anniversary back in 2019. To celebrate the momentous occasion, the band released some new music. On the process of recording “All Ready To Go,” one of those new songs, singer Adam Lazzara told Broadway World, “This song is a great example of how in tune we have become with one another, our collective musical instincts. It was an idea Mark and Shaun laid the bones down for in New York and then sent them down to Charlotte, where John and I continued to arrange and add our individual contributions.

“This made for a great demo and a fair amount of time for everyone to sit with it before we all were able to get in the studio together and hash out the different parts and details with one another. It sounds like a lot when I say it like that, but the process itself was a cohesive and relatively quick one. Having the space to live and breathe with the idea before all coming together to shape it, and knowing where we can lean on one another as the song progresses is both insightful and exciting to all of us. It’s one of my favorite parts of being in Taking Back Sunday.”
