Lizzo Joins Incubus Onstage, Rocks Out With Her Flute

Lizzo has made her teenage dream come true: she has just performed with the rock band Incubus. The “Truth Hurts” singer has been a fan of the California rock band since she was a teen. Now, at 35 years old, Lizzo, whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, made that happen over the weekend. As Incubus performed at the Hollywood Bowl as their last show of the band’s 2023 tour, Lizzo is seen ethereally and passionately playing the flute along to the band’s “Aqueous Transmission” track. “Those who know me… KNOW,” the star wrote, sharing an audience member video of her passionately playing flute next to lead singer Brandon Boyd. “This is BEYOND a dream and FULL CIRCLE.”

Lizzo’s Long Love of Incubus

Lizzo told her nearly 13 million followers that she saw Incubus perform twenty years ago at Woodlands Pavilion in Texas. She adds that she’s been a fan of the band since their 1997 album, S.C.I.E.N.C.E.. Tagging her flute, named Sasha, Lizzo continues in her caption: I WAS A PUDDLE ON THE FLOOR — thank you INCUBUS for everything but also for inviting me on stage and making my childhood dreams come true [sparkling heart emojis].” At the end of their performance, Lizzo gave Boyd a hug and screamed into the microphone, “Give it up for motherf—ing Incubus!!!”

Later, Lizzo shared footage of her jamming out to the concert with friends in the audience, along with one clip of her posing for photos with Boyd and bandmates Mike Einziger, Chris Kilmore, José Pasillas, and Nicole Row (Row subbed for bassist Ben Kenney on their tour this year). In the first clip, Brandon tells her thank you, to which Lizzo cheekily responds, “Oh my god, stop! Don’t even thank me anymore. I’m gonna punch you in the face! Don’t thank me anymore! Thank you!”

The band thanked Lizzo for joining them at the Bowl, writing on their Instagram account: “Was an honor to share the stage with you. [flute emoji, cheers emoji].” Incubus’ 2023 tour featured openers Paris Jackson and BADFLOWER. The band will play at SEMA Fest in Las Vegas in November before embarking on an Australia tour in 2024. Lizzo wrapped up her own Special Tour in July. As we previously reported, she was sued by a group of former backup dancers who alleged hostile work conditions and sexual harassment. Lizzo denounced these allegations as “false” and “sensationalized.” A couple weeks ago, Lizzo ”filed
