Lola Young took the stage at Elton John’s Oscar viewing party on Sunday night. Elton has been a big supporter of her career, and this year’s event raised $10.6 million for the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
Lola performed her Grammy-winning hit “Messy” along with other songs from her latest album, *I’m Only F Myself*, including “Not Like That Anymore,” “d£aler,” and “SPIDERS.” Before the show, Elton praised Lola, saying, “She’s something special. A lot of pop stars are veneered. This woman has soul. She’s authentic, and she will last for a very long time.”
Lola expressed her excitement, calling it “absolutely insane” to perform for such a “beautiful cause.”
Elton also shared a video on Instagram of him and his husband, David Furnish, greeting Lola backstage. In the clip, Elton presents her with a ring that likely features the iconic blue and white design known for bringing protection and good luck. He tells her, “Now, you can’t buy an evil eye for yourself. Someone has to buy it for you, and it protects you.”
An emotional Lola responds, “Oh my gosh,” as Elton kisses her hand. It was a night to remember for both Lola and the audience!
