Lollapalooza Berlin Becomes First German Festival To Receive Sustainable Accreditation

Lollapalooza Berlin is the first festival in Germany to be awarded sustainability accreditation according to international standards (DIN ISO 20121 certification).

Since Lollapalooza began, sustainability has been an integral part of the festival’s DNA.

Following the festival in September 2022, over one hundred sustainability measures were implemented, with an audit process introduced by the independent test centre GUTcert. The certification has a holistic approach to its audit, additionally examining the socials aspects of sustainability. At Lollapalooza, the festival is acutely aware of its environmental impact, placing focus on protecting our climate through measures including transportation, energy, waste, water, food and beverages.

‘In order to prioritize the sustainability of the festival holistically and even stronger, the Lollapalooza Berlin team successfully implemented the DIN ISO 20121 certification process within a year,’ says Andre Lieberberg, Managing Director, Live Nation GSA. ‘We are very delighted about this and will of course continue to fully support the transformation process.’

With this milestone, the festival has laid the foundation for making the entire value chain even more sustainable in the future. Through the certification, Lollapalooza Berlin assumes the responsibility to act sustainably in the long term.

Further audits will take place regularly until 2025, with the sustainability measures further developed and adapted to current standards. With the certification, Lollapalooza will create incentives for sustainable action for visitors, service providers and partners.

The certification from Lollapalooza Berlin underpins Live Nation’s extensive commitment to sustainability, which has been reflected at all Live Nation festivals as part of Green Nation for several years.
