Lorde and Universal Music have officially parted ways. The singer shared the news with fans in a voice memo, revealing that her long-term contract has ended.
Lorde, now 29, explained that she has been with Universal since she was just 12 years old when she signed her first development deal. She described her time with the label as “amazing,” but acknowledged that signing at such a young age meant she didn’t fully understand what she was giving up.
“I’m sure I’ll have a deal again, and it could be with Universal,” she said. “But I needed a moment to have nothing being bought or sold that comes from me.”
During her time with Universal, Lorde released four albums: *Pure Heroine* in 2013, *Melodrama* in 2017, *Solar Power* in 2021, and *Virgin* in 2025. Fans are excited to see what comes next for the talented artist as she takes this time for herself.
