Lykke Li has just released a new song called “Knife in the Heart.” This track is from her upcoming album, The Afterparty, which will be out on May 8. Li describes the song as her “brutalist nursery rhyme anthem,” saying it fully expresses her inner emo girl.
In a unique twist, she had her son and his friend sing the choruses. Their voices combined with the EBow created a powerful sound that Li feels is unlike anything she’s done before. She explains that the song reflects a world collapsing around us, leaving us with just our humanity.
Li dreams of hearing a whole football stadium chant the line: “This Life This Life is a Knife in the Heart.” She believes it captures the feeling of being alive today.
