Mike Shinoda addresses the Blink-182 bassist’s unused vocal takes from the ‘From Zero’ album sessions.
Blink-182 bassist Mark Hoppus revealed that he recorded vocal takes for a Linkin Park song during 2024 studio sessions for the band’s comeback album, From Zero, though his vocals were ultimately omitted from the final release. During a Q&A following the Los Angeles premiere of Linkin Park’s documentary Unshatter at AMC The Grove on Thursday, Sept. 24, Hoppus questioned Mike Shinoda about the cut vocal takes. Shinoda responded by telling Hoppus, “You were greater than the song.”
The studio encounter is featured in Unshatter, a documentary directed by Joe Hahn and Mark Ritchie that covers Linkin Park’s return following the 2017 death of Chester Bennington and their seven-year hiatus. The film, which highlights the addition of new members Emily Armstrong and Colin Brittain, begins a short global theatrical run on Wednesday, Sept. 30. Its companion release, UNSHATTER Film Soundtrack (Live in São Paulo), was released by Warner Records on Friday, Sept. 25, featuring 20 live tracks recorded at Allianz Parque in Brazil on Nov. 15, 2024.
