Mark Lanegan: Musicians Pay Tribute to Late Screaming Trees/QOTSA Singer

Mark Lanegan, best known for being the singer for Screaming Trees and his work in Queens of the Stone Age, died today (February 22) at the age of 57.

Lanegan’s death was confirmed in a brief statement via his Twitter which read, “Our beloved friend Mark Lanegan passed away this morning at his home in Killarney, Ireland.  A beloved singer, songwriter, author and musician he was 57 and is survived by his wife Shelley. No other information is available at this time. We ask please respect the family’s privacy.”

Forming in 1984, Screaming Trees were among Grunge’s earliest influences and released eight studio albums between 1986 and 2011. (The band would dissolve in 2000.) Following Screaming Trees, Lanegan would join Queens of the Stone Age in 2000 and remain in the band until 2014.
