Hard rock duo Nelson, made up of brothers Gunnar and Matthew Nelson, are the twin sons of music legends Ricky Nelson and Kristin Nelson. They shot to fame in the early 1990s with their debut album, *After the Rain*, featuring the hit song “(Can’t Live Without Your) Love and Affection.”
Now, they’re back with a new book titled *What Happened to Your Hair?: How We Played Loud… Loved Proud… and Never Backed Down…*, set to release on December 16. In this book, the Nelson brothers share untold stories from their upbringing, including their iconic grandparents Ozzie and Harriet and their legendary father, Ricky Nelson. They detail their journey to the top of the charts and the wild ride of their music careers, all while staying true to themselves.
Gunnar and Matthew wrote this book without a ghostwriter, openly discussing the challenges they faced, from industry setbacks to personal struggles. They believe these experiences made them stronger and more determined.
In a recent interview, the brothers explained why now is the right time to share their story. “We didn’t feel it was time before; we hadn’t lived enough life,” they said. “But we have a lot of stories to tell.” They often share anecdotes at their concerts, and fans encouraged them to write a book.
They describe *What Happened to Your Hair?* as a book for Gen X readers, saying, “It’s not candy-coated or bubble-wrapped. It’s a way for people to really know us.”
