Maya Delilah has shared a new single. “Look At the State of Me Now” is the lead single from the London-based songwriter’s forthcoming debut album, due next year via Blue Note/Capitol. The reflective track is a collaboration with Aquilo’s Ben Fletcher and Tom Higham who co-wrote, produced, and recorded the song in their London studio. The song features Delilah on guitar and vocals, Higham on guitar, and Fletcher on keys, bass, and drums.

“‘Look At the State of Me Now’ is about looking at yourself at the breaking point in a relationship,” says the artist. “There’s a big part of you that wants to stay but you also know you’d be crazy if you did. It’s about feeling conflicted as the other side of you wants to make it work. I’m sure so many people have felt this way just like myself. I always love writing in the time signature 6/8 as it feels so much more emotive to me, and as this song is about heartbreak it felt fitting.”

The 24-year-old singer, songwriter, and guitarist attended the prestigious BRIT School, which counts among its alumni Adele, Amy Winehouse, and FKA twigs. During the 2020 lockdown, Delilah began to develop a devoted fan base via livestreams and TikTok videos featuring the guitarist casually flexing her chops. A pair of self-released EPs (2020’s Oh Boy and 2021’s It’s Not Me, It’s You) furthered her following as fan favorites like “Breakup Season” and “Tangerine” amassed more than 50 million streams.

In 2022, Delilah reimagined Cassandra Wilson’s cover of Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon” for Blue Note Re:imagined II. Later that year, she officially joined Blue Note/Capitol and shared a slow jam titled “Pretty Face” to celebrate the occasion. She followed those tracks with a trilogy of 2023 singles, “Actress,” “Necklace,” and “Silver Lining.” Earlier this year, Delilah was named to the Fender Next Class of 2024, a meaningful co-sign from the guitar brand she’s been playing since age eight.
